The Liberals opposed including a bill that provides for the institution of a control body under the Prime Minister, which would check the work of the central public administration, in the agenda of the November 22 sitting of Parliament. The bill caused disputes among the MPs of the Alliance for European Integration and even allusions about the alliance’s dismemberment. The Liberal-Democratic lawmakers suggested discussing the bill in a sitting next week, but the Liberals were against and even asked for a pause that lasted for almost an hour. In this period, the MPs of the ruling alliance held a meeting, but they could not reach a compromise. The Liberal Party’s head Mihai Ghimpu accused the Liberal-Democrats of making common cause with the unaffiliated MPs in order to promote their interests. “There were persons who voted for the bills that weren’t supported by a component of the alliance. If we want to work like this, the PLDM should decide who they want to form an alliance with. When we undertook governance, we did not agree to vote a bill together with the PL, while another bill together with seven Communists,” stated Ghimpu. However, the bill was included in the Parliament’s agenda. Under it, the Premier’s control body will check how the central and specialized public authorities fulfill their duties. The Liberals said yet that the Government, which registered the bill in June, should have presented regulations concerning the obligations of this institution. The Liberals and Liberal-Democrats Thursday also argued over a Government’s bill that excludes the criminal punishment for smuggling. The bill was proposed for discussion also by the PLDM.
