The chairman of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu and Liberal MP Valeriu Munteanu Tuesday filed a challenge to the Constitutional Court, questioning the constitutionality of the law by which the interim Prime Minister was given powers and of the law that specifies the powers of the outgoing Cabinet, which were promulgated by the head of state, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the party.
The Liberals consider that by adopting the two laws on May 3 the legislative body violated Articles 98 and 103 of the Constitution of Moldova. They asked the Constitutional Court to suspend the two laws and to pronounce on their constitutionality.
On May 9, President Nicolae Timofti promulgated the package of laws passed by the votes of the Liberal-Democratic and Communist MPs on May 3, except the bill enabling the lawmakers to dismiss the Constitutional Court judges who lose the trust of by 2/3 of the MPs.
