The Liberal Party (PL) calls on all the pro-European and unionist forces to unite on the last 100 meters before the elections and to propose by one candidate in each constituency. The Liberal leader Dorin Chirtoacă told a news conference that if the forces of the right do not combine efforts, the pro-European and unionist candidates will not have chances of entering Parliament because people’s votes for these candidates will be dispersed.

Given that there are a lot of candidates, the people with pro-European and unionist views will be unable to choose and such a situation was created deliberately so as to confuse the voters, stated Dorin Chirtoacă. The Liberal leader gave as example the last local elections, saying the candidate of the right in the area of constituency No. 30 gained approximately 17,500 votes, while the Socialists about 13,000. If the votes on the right are divided between the five pro-European and unionist candidates who are now in this constituency, one of these will get at most 5,000 votes and the others less, while the Socialist candidate will win. Such a situation suits best the regime of Plahotniuc, Dodon and Shor.

Dorin Chirtoacă didn’t say how namely the common candidate of the pro-European and unionist forces should be chosen, noting discussions are needed in this regard.

In another development, the Liberal leader said many of the candidates promise goods roads, sewerage systems and other things that are actually the responsibility of the mayor. When they enter Parliament, they will exert pressure on mayors and will resort to traffic of influence so as to be able to deliver their promises. In constituencies in Chisinau, some of the candidates boast of projects that were implemented when he served as a mayor, such as lines with battery-powered trolleybuses in suburban settlements.

Nicoleta Mălai, who runs in constituency No. 30 Strășeni, said those who run for MP should think about laws, not about electoral promises typical of mayors. She called on the voters to think well and make a correct choice on February 24.
