The National Committee of the Liberal Party met last weekend to discuss the criteria for selecting the party’s candidate for President of Moldova and the qualities that this should possess, IPN reports.
According to a press release of the party, chairman Mihai Ghimpu said that it was an informal meeting. “We didn’t discuss concrete names. It was a preventive discussion. It is too early to agree the candidate’s tactic and strategy. There is enough time. It is important that the party be ready for these elections. The continuation of the European course is now more important than ever,” he stated.
The Liberals’ leader also said that the future candidate of the Liberal Party will be a person with integrity able to ensure political stability and economic growth in the country. The possible candidates for President will be initially discussed within the party’s local organizations. Afterward, the party’s National Council will take a final decision to this effect.
Under the Constitutional Court’s Judgment of March 4, the President will be elected directly by the people. Parliament set the date of the presidential elections for October 30.
