Liberal ministers continue to fulfill their duties, PL

“The ministers of the Liberal Party continue to fulfill their duties. The expressed concerns are groundless as the party's list of candidates has not been yet registered,” the PL says in a statement issued in response to Premier Vlad Filat's statements. “Knowing that the ministers of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI) will run in elections, the Political Office of the Liberal Party decided that after the list of candidates is submitted to the Central Election Commission and made known through the media, the Liberal ministers will withdraw from the list for a period, in accordance with the Election Code,” says the statement published on the PL's website, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The PL says that if the Prime Minister had consulted his colleagues from the AEI, all these aspects would have been clarified and certain electoral interpretations would have been avoided. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Liberal MP Corina Fusu said she cannot make other comments than those included in the party's statement. The Liberal Party has four ministers in the Filat Government – Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru,and Minister of Youth and Sport Ion Cebanu. The Liberals submitted the documents to the CEC on Monday, October 4. The central electoral authority is to take a decision as regards the registration of the party as election contender within seven days. In a news conference on Tuesday, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said the Cabinet can no more take decisions as 11 ministers have been included in political parties' lists of candidates for the November 28 early legislative elections. The PLDM called upon the colleagues from the Alliance for European Integration to delegate ministers to work in the Cabinet so that a quorum for taking decisions be present. According to Vlad Filat, for this reason the PLDM will present its list of candidates closer to the deadline for the submission of applications to the Central Election Commission. Under the law, the ministers who are included in political parties' lists of candidates are suspended from posts. They can be substituted by other persons by presidential decree.
