The Centru District Court decided to give a fine of MDL 200 to the deputy chairman of the Liberal Party Dorin Chirtoaca on Tuesday, March 27 because he participated in an unauthorised protest march.
According to the representatives of the LP, at around 11.00, while a group of party members and supporters were heading to the Central Cemetery located on Armeneasca Street to lay flower at the graves of the persons deceased 89 years ago for the unification of Basarabia with Romania, the police bodies interfered and pushed them by force into police cars. Afterwards 15 persons were transported to the Centru District Police Office. After a 5 hour detainment, they were transported to the Centru District Court, being accused of disturbing public order.
The judge fined Chirtoaca and started to hear the leader of the LP Mihai Ghimpu, subsequently adjourning the court sitting until Wednesday, 11.00.
Dorin Chirtoaca denied the accusations, mentioning that the LP will continue to promote freedom and democracy, and the fact that the regime uses such methods proves the fact “it is exhausted and weak”.
The reporting crew of PRO TV Chisinau announced that it was also arrested in the street, while shooting on camera the members of the LP. Later, the reporting crew of DTV was arrested directly in the headquarters of the Centru District Police Office. They came to find information about the incident, but they were arrested.
