The Government of Moldova worked hard to improve the relations with Russia, but the Kremlin does not fulfill its commitments and exerts economic pressure on Moldova, the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Flat said in the program “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
“We worked a lot to have good relations with Russia and received relevant advice from our European partners and the U.S. We signed a lot of treaties and agreements with Russia. But Moscow does not understand that the relations of friendship are based not only on Moldova’s loyalty, but also on the correctness of the Russian government,” stated Vlad Filat.
He underlined that Moscow exerts economic pressure on Chisinau because it does not want Moldova to sign the Association Agreement with the EU. “All these embargoes imposed by Russia have a political subtext. How can Russia consider the Moldovan wines of a poor quality, but continue to import wines from Gagauzia, given that the region held an illegal referendum on joining the Customs Union?” asked the Liberal-Democratic leader.
According to him, the provocations on the part of Russia will intensify before the parliamentary elections and Moscow will make use of such Moldovan leftwing parties as the Communist Party and the Party of Socialists.
“Mark Tkachuk vacated his seat in Parliament in order to prepare the Communist Party for elections. According to my information, the Communists’ election campaign will be aggressive, full of Tkachuk’s unusual and extremist ideas,” said Vlad Filat.
As to state security, the Liberal-Democratic leader noted that world changed after the developments in Ukraine and a new approach is needed to security. He considers that Moldova should cooperate with NATO.
