The Liberal Party’s candidate for mayor general of Chisinau Valeriu Munteanu officially opened his election campaign on April 18. In the event held in front of the Chisinau City Hall, Valeriu Munteanu said he will take firm measures to do justice in Chisinau and to the residents of Chisinau from the very first day of his term of mayor. Moreover, being supported by hundreds of thousands of people who want justice and a better life, he will initiate referendums and will apply all the legal measures to ensure justice, IPN reports.

Valeriu Munteanu said his goal is to ensure the welfare and happiness of the citizens of Chisinau. He will demand that the revenues earned by Chisinau should remain at the City Hall for developing the city and helping the residents. Such large facilities as the Chisinau Airport and the company Termoelectrica should partially or fully belong to the Chisinau Municipal Council.

The Liberal candidate promised he will take away the railways that go through the municipality and will replace these with European streets and boulevards and will free the residents of Chisinau from commissions paid on each power bill. He intends to build a natural gas power plant that will work based on the gas that will be transported by the new Iasi–Ungheni–Chisinau gas pipeline so as to cheapen the electricity and heat. He will extend the public transport network to the suburbs by introducing battery-powered trolleybuses and will repair the streets and sidewalks. He considers a city like Chisinau should have a metropolitan area and local police.

Ex-mayor of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca, first deputy head of the Liberal Party, wished Valeriu Munteanu to hold at least three mayoralties in Chisinau. He noted that Valeriu Munteanu’s team does not include discredited persons or persons who would be managed by someone from behind. Dorin Chirtoaca explained he didn’t run for a new term in office because he wants to win the parliamentary elections of this autumn and then the presidential elections.

Valeriu Munteanu was registered as an electoral contended by the Chisinau District Electoral Council. On the ballot, he is under number 5.
