Liberal candidate for Chisinau mayor presents investment component of his platform

Dorin Chirtoaca, the Liberal candidate for mayor of Chisinau, on Tuesday presented the investment component of his electoral platform. “We have investment projects approved by the City Council which are to be implemented over the next four years and which will help young people find a job at home, preventing families from breaking apart”, he told reporters who gathered in a industrial park in Chisinau's Ciocana district. The Liberal candidate stated that investment in Chisinau would rise by 500 million lei annually due to certain legislative amendments. Currently the public budget can only allot 50 to 70 million lei in investment for Chisinau. Dorin Chirtoaca's plans include opening more industrial zones and parks in the spaces formerly occupied by the factory Alfa, on the bank of the river Byk and on the city's outskirts. The Central Market will be reorganized so as to increase the number of jobs from 6,500 to 20,000. According to Dorin Chirtoaca, during his four years in office as Mayor of Chisinau, investment amounted to 8 billion lei, creating 10,000 jobs. The Liberal candidate also said he would support the construction of an Olympic stadium valued at 40-50 million euros, in place of the national stadium which was demolished during the communist government, and would facilitate the appearance in Chisinau of well-known retailers like Ikea and Carrefour. Other plans voiced by Chirtoaca include creating an assembly line of trolleybuses in Chisinau and facilitating 10,000 mortgage loans through the First Home program. Dorin Chirtoaca's reelection will be contested by Communist Igor Dodon in a runoff vote on Sunday, June 19.
