The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will vote on the report concerning the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans on February 12. The vote in the European Parliament plenary will be taken on February 25, said MEP Monica Macovei, who heads the European Parliament’s delegation to the EU - Moldova parliamentary cooperation committee, IPN reports.

“The Moldovan citizens are welcome in the European Union. We reached the moment when they see the tangible benefits of the European path. They will soon travel without visas in all the EU member states. Moldova’s efforts to obey and implement the European rules started to produce results and we help and support it consistently and determinedly,” reads a statement by Monica Macovei.

Last week, Monica Macovei, together with the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee (AFET) Elmar Brok and Permanent Rapporteur on Moldova within AFET Graham Watson, signed a letter by which the AFET seeks the immediate liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans. The three MEPs said the move is for the Moldovan people’s benefit and it can contribute to the peaceful resolution of the Transnistrian conflict.
