The Liberal-Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) came up with a bill according to which ideological monuments, like those to Lenin, shouldn’t be introduced in the Registry of monuments and shouldn’t be protected by law, the party said in a press release. “As regards some of the speculation about the PLDM MPs’ initiative to politically condemn totalitarian regimes, the Liberal-Democratic Party of Moldova stresses that only goal of the bill regarding the amendment of several laws is to politically condemn the illegal actions of totalitarian regimes”, reads a press release about the proposal to fine the public use of totalitarian regimes’ symbols. The amendment to the Law on protection of monuments proposes a new paragraph to be introduced in article 1, stipulating that no objects or aggregation of objects that are ideological remains of totalitarian regimes can obtain monument's status or can be included in the Registry of monuments. This refers to monuments of Lenin and other exponents of totalitarian regimes. PLDM stresses that the document doesn’t refer to memorial complexes dedicated to fallen soldiers. These are part of the historical past and can’t be branded as remains of totalitarian regimes, the party says.
