The 2014 spring-summer session was productive. The Liberal-Democratic MPs submitted 58 legislative initiatives personally or together with other lawmakers from other factions. A large part of them are being implemented and produce palpable results, the leader of the Liberal-Democratic faction Valeriu Strelet told a news conference, quoted by IPN.

Valeriu Strelet noted that one of the most important bills examined by Parliament since the adoption of the Constitution was the bill concerning the ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU.

Of the legislative initiatives with major impact on the people, the head of the Liberal-Democratic faction mentioned the bill to institute a legal mechanism for protecting the employees of state or municipal enterprises undergoing insolvency and the bill to introduce a female electoral representation quota of minimum 30%, which was adopted in the first reading.

Valeriu Strelet also mentioned the bills to give the towns Cahul, Orhei, Soroca and Ungheni the status of municipality, which was also passed in the first reading, to oblige the employers to offer places for internship and to amend the Broadcasting Code so as to ensure media ownership transparency.

According to the Lib-Dem, the MPs failed to adopt the bill that reduces the immunity of MPs owing to the absence of a number of lawmakers and the resistance put up by the Communist opposition.

Valeriu Strelet voiced hope that the current and future legislative bodies will examine and adopt the package of laws needed for Moldova to achieve the major goal of becoming part of the large European family. “This means more prospects for the citizens and a bright future with high living standards at home. There is yet a lot to be done, but, with effort and responsibility, we can build Europe at home, with everyone’s involvement,” he stated.

The Parliament’s autumn-winter session starts on September 5.
