The Liberal-Democratic Party is skeptical about a successful outcome of the attempt to elect a president on December 16, said Valeriu Strelet, the leader of the Lib-Dem parliamentary faction, after the Parliament's meeting on Friday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Previously we've offered our opinion on the overly optimistic expectations of our (Alliance) colleagues. In electing a president, we should adopt a realistic approach and start this undertaking when we are fairly sure of success. Our Alliance partners must have some good reason if they have this certitude, but we remain skeptical. We would very much like to know until December 16 what is the reason of this optimism and which is the configuration of votes. Then we will be ready to make decisions”, said Strelet.
He further stated that the Liberal-Democratic Party counted on its Alliance partners to endorse a set of proposed laws that was requested by the Government to be adopted until December 16. “We will attentively follow to see if any changes in the configuration of the ruling alliance occur, and depending on all these developments and on how commitments are respected, we will see which behavior to adopt on December 16”, said Strelet.
He called on the Alliance partners to treat presidential elections in earnest, noting at the same time that the Communists also had “an obligation before the people and democracy”.
