Liberal-Democratic Party MP Simion Furdui is proposing to fine those who sell industrially processed food products without proper labels. The proposal is included in a draft law submitted to the Parliament, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to the draft law, the label must provide the customers with all the necessary information on the food products they buy. It must include the name of the product, the list of ingredients, the net mass, the date of production and the shelf life, storage conditions, the name and the address of the producer/importer/distributor, data about the identification of the batch, the country of origin and other specific information stipulated by food regulations.
The violation of this rule will be fined with 1500-3000 lei for individuals and 8000-10000 lei for legal entities.
The MP also wants the product details to be displayed on the package or on the label so that they were easy to read, with a font size of at least 9 Didot points. According to Simion Furdui, the labeling systems currently in use have gaps that may lead to the incorrect information of the customer. This draft law is meant to ensure that the label information is of higher quality.
