The latest precipitation is sufficient for the crops, at least at the current stage. The level of moisture in the arable land reached the norm for this period. “Anyway, we expect to have atmospheric instability during the next few days too. The drought could be further reduced,” Gennady Roșca, head of the Weather Forecasts Center, stated for IPN. Rain in most parts of Moldova, particularly in the northern districts, was forecast for the next few days.

At greater depths, the situation is worse. In the northern districts, the level of moisture is of 100-115 mm, which is between 74% and 60% of the norm. In central and southern Moldova, the indicator stands at 40-90 mm or 30-60% of the norm. According to Gennady Roșca, the period of time during which moisture will remain in the ground depends on the temperature and the winds, which contribute to the evaporation of water from soil.

In January – April, the quantity of precipitation in most parts of the country didn’t exceed 40-65 mm, which is 35-50% of the norm. Such a situation is witnessed once in 10-20 years.
