The exchange rate of the Moldovan leu against the main foreign currencies will not see significant fluctuations, the governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the governor, the updated medium-term macroeconomic forecast envisions a relatively stable exchange rate of the leu against the main foreign currencies, without significant fluctuations. Dorin Dragutanu said the currency market is currently calm. “There is a small surplus of currency on the market that makes the leu to appreciate. We think such a situation will continue by the end of the year. An increase in demand from the large importers of energy resources is expected the next weeks, but there will be no essential changes in the exchange rate,” he stated. Asked to anticipate how the dollar-euro relationship will be affected by the injection of $600 billion by the U.S. in a new attempt to stimulate its currency, Dragutanu said such a decision was expected. “It began to be discussed by specialists, the press and people about four weeks ago. Only the exact sum that was to be allocated was not known. The prices on the world stock exchanges include the possible changes. Usually, the stock exchange operators analyze such situations in order to prevent them or to obtain advantages. For example, when the value of the injection was announced, the dollar depreciated suddenly during several hours, but then started to quickly recover,” Dragutanu said.
