Leu depreciated by 1.7% against U.S. dollar at end-January

The degree of covering the net demand for foreign currency from business entities by the private individuals’ supply of foreign currency this January was 96.8%, as opposed to 97.3% last December, IPN reports.

According to the National Bank of Moldova, against the previous month the net supply of foreign currency on the part of private individuals in January declined by US$ 1.8 million. The net demand for foreign currency from business entities decreased by US$ 1 million.

In January 2020, the Moldovan leu depreciated by 0.4% against the U.S. dollar to 17.4185 USD/MDL, as against 17.3450 USD/MDL in December 2019. At end-January, the leu depreciated by 1.7% against U.S. dollar.

The European common currency continued to account for the largest part of the net supply of foreign currency ensured by private individuals, 67.9%.
