“Let us make Moldova’s voice heard so as to build the reputation of a reliable partner and cultivate long-term strategic partnerships”, stated Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu during a teleconference with heads of Moldovan diplomatic missions around the world, which was held to sum up the past year and set new objectives for 2022.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration said in a press release that this year the Moldovan diplomatic service will follow a 4D-based concept: European Development, Dialog, Diaspora and economic Diplomacy.
“We want to further promote a predictable and consistent foreign policy, oriented towards the people and the reform agenda demanded by them. We have encouraged colleagues in embassies and consulates to make the voice of Moldova heard in order to build the reputation of a reliable partner and cultivate long-term strategic partnerships”, Nicu Popescu was quoted in the press release as saying.
Among the objectives set for this year are to intensify economic diplomacy by promoting products made in Moldova, increase the number of tourists and attract investment through meetings, direct contacts, cultivating relationships and referring potential investors to Moldovan partners.
The Moldovan chief diplomat also talked about priorities for the diaspora, which include speeding up modernization and digitization of consular services to improve their quality.
“I have encouraged our diplomats to explain the benefits of the activities we work for and promote in the interest of the diaspora: social protection agreements, conversion of driving licenses, reduction of roaming costs, systematic support of diaspora associations and organization of events under the auspices of embassies. I have asked our ambassadors, consuls and diplomats to be more accessible and to use every opportunity to ensure open communication with Moldovans settled abroad, including during the pandemic by digital means,” said Minister Nicu Popescu.
