The schools will not be closed, but reorganized. “In times of crisis we cannot afford to maintain the education institutions with a low number of students for which money is allocated from the budget according to the earlier attendance figures,” Minister of Education Leonid Bujor said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the minister, the reorganization of the education institutions involves the modification of their status, from high school into general secondary school for example. The changes are aimed at optimizing the use of the budgetary resources in education. “We plan to implement these changes gradually, during the next four years, taking into account the interests of the students and directors of the education institutions,” Leonid Bujor said. “We want to optimize the education process in our country, not to liquidate a certain number of schools as those who do not understand the essence of the optimization polices and those who misinform for political reasons interpret the reorganization.” “No politicized and arbitrary actions will be taken. The Ministry of Education has a well thought out program that was coordinated with all the decision makers in our country. It is designed to create optimal conditions for the students to gain knowledge – heat, water, electric power, furniture, equipment and skilled personnel,” Bujor said. Earlier, the Communist Opposition criticized the Filat Government for the intention to close 120 rural schools and create 50 district schools.
