Leonid Bujor: Communists planned to destroy education

The relieved ministry of education has presented 2 classified documents this Monday, at a press conference. According to Leonid Bujor, the previous government intended to reduce the number of stipends granted to students after April 2009 and also the number of matriculated students and the number of educational institutions and teachers, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to Bujor, the first document was signed by the former minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Larisa Savga, and was sent to the ex Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii on April 15, 2009. Larisa Savga proposed 30% cuts from the number of stipends, with possible annual economies of 17million lei. The number of stipends was to be decreased in universities as well as colleges. The document foresaw the full payment of the housing tax in students’ boarding houses for all beneficiaries, with the exception of orphans and tutored students. The matriculation plan for medium-specialized and high level institutions was to be halved in comparison to the 2008-2009 year of study, the possible economies amounting to 47 million lei. The second declassified document stipulated the firing of 5000 teachers after several educational institutions were to be closed. “By these documents, the destruction of the Moldovan educational system was intended”, Leonid Bujor declared. The relieved minister said that he made these documents public as a response to the communists’ accusations, which stated that the Alliance for European Integration (AIE) had decreased the number of matriculated students. Leonid Bujor avoided stating how he found out about the existence of these documents, but he made it clear that he got them from a member of the Communists’ Party. “I will be giving names after November 28”, Leonid Bujor said. According to the data that was presented by Bujor, 14000 students are matriculated in specialized and professional schools in Moldova, 1000 more than last year. The number of colleges is over 9000, the same as 2009. 22000 students are attending high-level educational institutions.
