The legislative body will most probably garner the number of votes needed to amend the Constitution and remove parliamentary immunity. At least this results from the statements made by MPs of the Democratic Party, the Party of Socialists and the Liberal Party in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.

Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu said the immunity must be removed in order to ensure the equality of all the people before the law. “There are MPs who have an arrogant behavior, break the law and the police can do nothing because these enjoy immunity. To eliminate such abuses, we will vote to remove the parliamentary immunity,” he stated.

Socialist lawmaker Vasile Bolea noted that the Socialists will vote in favor of annulling parliamentary immunity. “Other categories of functionaries like the National Bank governor, the ordinary judges and the Constitutional Court judges must also be deprived of immunity. But this bill may not be ultimately put to the vote as there are persons in the PDM who do not want to remain without immunity. Among these is the party’s president of honor Dumitru Diacov,” he said.

Liberal MP Ion Casian assured that the Liberal group will vote to remove the parliamentary immunity. “We will definitely vote for. This is a sincere initiative showing political will to do reforms and to go on,” he stated.
