The Party of Action and Solidarity submitted a legislative proposal to amend a number of laws with the aim of contributing to combating sexual harassment. According to the party, despite the high incidence of cases of harassment, only 15% of the women report such cases. The low level of reporting is due to self-culpabilization, distrust in the responsible bodies and the attitude of society, IPN reports.

“Sexual harassment is a form of violence and discrimination on grounds of sex and this phenomenon should no way be tolerated in private and public working environments. Statistics show that each fifth working woman in the Republic of Moldova is now subject to subtle forms of sexual harassment at the workplace, while four in 100 women face serious forms of harassment,” PAS MP Angela Munteanu-Pojoga stated in a news conference. The bill introduces a series of provisions designed to contribute to fighting sexual harassment.

PAS joined the national campaign to inform and sensitize the public to sexual harassment that was launched on the occasion of the International Sexual Assault Awareness Month. In the course of April, society will be informed about this phenomenon, its forms of manifestation and methods of reporting it. The campaign is titled “We say NO to sexual harassment!”.
