The Federation of Transport and Road Workers’ Trade Unions considers that the current legislation on transport favors illegal activity. According to a communiqué from the organization, the illegal transportation activities can be stopped by formulating better legislation, IPN reports.

“Regretfully, the road transport sector became one of the most corrupt and the chaos in this sector may lead to a disaster with very serious consequences for society. This fact discredits the branches of powers,” said the Federation’s chairman Boris Rojnevschi.

He said that about 40-50% of the workers do not pay taxes. As a result, the retirement system is destroyed and the pensions are very small. “The 50-60% of the people working honestly will not be able to solve all the problems of society only by paying taxes,” stated the trade unionist.

As to the situation in the transport sector, Boris Rojnevschi said that they now use to provide the routes required by the bosses, in breach of the regulations and normative documents. This causes multiple conflicts between the carriers.

The Federation of Transport and Road Workers’ Trade Unions of Moldova has about 5,000 members who form part of the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova. It is an affiliate of the International Transport Workers’ Federation.
