Legal Commission selects civil society representative to CNI

Members of the Parliament's Legal Commission is proposing the candidacy of Cristina Cojocaru as civil society's representative in the National Integrity Commission (CNI), Info-Prim Neo reports. Cristina Cojocaru is an expert at the Association for Participative Democracy. She competed for the CNI position with fiver other candidates. In February, the Legal Commission examined the applications and selected only two. At the latest meeting, the Commission chose Cristina Cojocaru. The Commission also discussed the parliamentary parties’ candidatures for the CNI. In another development, the Liberal Party demanded that Anatol Chiriac be removed from the commission and replaced with lawyer Ion Casian. The latter’s candidacy was supported by the MPs of the governing coalition government. Communist MP Sergiu Sirbu asked Casian whether he would obey PL leader's orders, but the new CNI member stated that his function obliged him to be impartial. Meanwhile, Liberal-Democrat Tudor Deliu announced that his party would withdraw Ion Prisacaru’s candidacy. A replacement would be announced later. The National Integrity Commission is formed of 5 members appointed by Parliament with a majority of votes. 3 candidates are proposed by the majority, one by the opposition and one by civil society. The CNI was created to check public officials' income and property declarations.
