President Nicolae Timofti’s request to reexamine the bill that provides for the dismissal of judges of the Constitutional Court (CC) didn’t gain the necessary number of votes from the Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities. The commission was to endorse either the head of state’s approach or the vote given by Parliament on May 3.

Asked by IPN to explain what today’s vote means, Liberal-Democratic MP Tudor Deliu said it is up to Parliament to decide whether to accept the President’s request or not.

If the bill is put to the vote again, the head of state will no longer have the right of veto to block it.

In the same meeting, the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu called on his colleagues to stop attacking the Constitutional Court.

On May 3, the Communist and Liberal-Democratic MPs passed a bill enabling Parliament to discharge the constitutional judges who are no longer trusted by the lawmakers.
