The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities approved the legislative initiative put forward by Liberal MPs Valeriu Munteanu and Vadim Cojocaru, which prohibits the sale of fast food in schools and within 100 meters of them, Info-Prim Neo reports. Only products recommended by the Ministry of Health will be sold near schools. Communist lawmaker Anatol Zagorodnyi said the initiative is good, but would not be fully implemented as there are cases when the schools are situated 50 meters of large shops. Maria Postoiko, the leader of the Communist parliamentary group, said the law should prohibit the sale of unsafe food to children. “Instead of banning the sale of fast food near schools, we’d better ban the sale of these products to children, as in the case of alcohol and tobacco products,” said the MP. The initiative was endorsed, but it was agreed that amendments will be proposed when the bill is debated in Parliament. Under the bill, unsafe products are considered the sweetened cereals, carbonated juices, the chips, snacks and others.
