The Parliament’s legal commission for appointments and immunities finished the examination of the nine requests by which the Prosecutor General’s Office asked to strip MP Ilan Șor of immunity. The relevant reports were approved and will be submitted to Parliament for taking a decision. The requests cover the period between 2012 and 2014 and refer to the bank fraud case and the Chisinau International Airport, IPN reports.

The commission’s head Olesea Stamate told a news conference that the Parliament’s Standing Bureau on December 22 is to decide the date of the legislative body’s plenary siting and if the sitting will be open or will be held behind closed doors. The lawyers for Ilan Șor refused to take part in today’s meeting.

“We thoroughly examined the information presented by the prosecutor general. The posed questions required detailed answers and I want to tell you that the representatives of the PGO coped very well and offered us comprehensive information about the bank fraud. I consider the commission members received all the necessary information from the Prosecutor General’s Office and could form an opinion about the charges made against Ilan Șor,” stated Olesea Stamate.

Under the Parliament’s Regulations, the MPs will take a decision about the prosecutor general’s requests by a majority of votes, by a secret ballot.

The Prosecutor General’s Office asked to lift the parliamentary immunity of Ilan Șor so that this could be detained, arrested, searched and sent to court on a number of charges, such as large-scale swindle, money laundering, creation and management of a criminal organization, falsification of documents, appropriation, abuse of power and abuse of office.

Ilan Șor, who disappeared from the public sphere in June 2019, said that this is a show staged by President Maia Sandu. Ilan Șor was also stripped of parliamentary immunity in August 2019.
