The Social Democratic Party (PSD) considers that three contenders should enter the electoral race in case of early elections: the Communist Party, the center and left-wing parties and the right-wing parties under joint lists, Info-Prim Neo reports. At a news conference on Monday, the PSD president Dumitru Braghis said that the center and left-wing parties that could run under common list alongside the PSD are: the Democratic Party (PDM), the Centrist Union (UCM) and the United Moldova Party. The list of right-wing parties, according to Braghi, must include the three parliamentary Opposition parties – the Liberal Party (PL), the Liberal-Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN), together with the European Action Movement and the National Liberal Party. The PSD leader is convinced that the left-wing parties will poll 60-70% of the vote, while the right-wing parties will obtain at the most 35% together. Dumitru Braghis said that the PSD does not hold talks with parties over joint participation in elections as it is not yet known if there will be early elections. He said yet that he talked about this with the PDM, UCM, PL and PLDM. On May 20, the Parliament is to elect the president of Moldova. Former Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanii and academician Stanislav Groppa are the candidates for presidency. Both were fielded by the PCRM. The head of state is elected by the vote of 61 MPs. The parliamentary group of the PCRM is composed of 60 MPs. The Opposition has repeatedly announced it will not participate in the election of a Communist president. If the Parliament fails to elect the president in three rounds of voting, the outgoing president will dissolve the Parliament and announce early elections.
