Outgoing Prime Minister Iurie Leanca told public TV Moldova 1 that he is willing to give up a new term in office if this is necessary to catch and punish those who defrauded Banca de Economii and make them return the stolen money, IPN reports.
Leanca admitted that many civil servants and officials in state institutions steal a lot. “There are people who steal in the Parliament, in the government, in the local administration. They steal and there is a a lot of corruption. This phenomenon endagers the institutions of the state. We have reached the situation when we have to deliver a powerful blow to this problem or otherwise a pro-European government is meaningless”, said the PM.
The official agrees that although his Cabinet started some measures in this regard the first steps have been slow and shy. “That is why we need external support. In Brussels, we even talked about creating an anticorruption ombudsman and appointing a foreign citizens to this office. We can follow the experience of other countries that received foreign support to fight corruption. The best example is that of Romania, which finally obtained impressive results in the fight against corruption”, argued Leanca.
The acting Prime Minister said that society reached the critical point where it cannot tolerate any more frauds and corruption. “The people want to see stability, want to have trust in the judiciary and the government and don’t want to see high-ranking dignitaries stealing”, concluded Leanca.
