Unaffiliated MP Iurie Leanca, who heads the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM), voiced hope that Moldova will really return soon to the European path. The expectations were stated in a meeting with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk, who is in Chisinau on a visit, IPN reports.

According to a press release of the PPEM, Iurie Leanca and Donald Tusk discussed the political situation in the country, Leanca’s political project and the importance of continuing Moldova’s European course. It is only one year since the visa requirements for Moldova were abolished, but the European People’s Party ascertains that the country no longer has a clear European perspective.

“Regretfully, the people’s confidence in our authorities and their view of Moldova is at the lowest level since the declaring of the country’s independence. Moldova is like a ship without captain and is drifting. The power is held by an army of corrupt functionaries and complete oligarchic control was instituted. Everything is done with the aim of protecting the illegally obtained property,” said the PPEM members.

In his message one year after the introduction of the visa-free regime with the EU, Iurie Leanca says he and the team of the PPEM will do their utmost for the deviation to be a short-term one and for those who are to blame for the blocking of the road to Europe to answer before the people.
