Prime Minister Iurie Leanca thanked the European Commission for the support provided to Moldova, in particular President Jose Manuel Barroso, who is completing his duties on October 31. The two officials had a telephone discussion. The Premier also discussed with European Commissioners Štefan Füle and Dacian Ciolos, whose tenures are also coming to an end, IPN has learned from the Government’s press service.
Iurie Leanca thanked the three officials for the assistance offered to Moldova in its European integration efforts. “You are Moldova’s true friends and our country wouldn’t have made such progress on the path to the EU without your personal contribution,” he stated.
“The political association and economic integration with the EU, the visa-free travel, the political and financial support for implementing reforms to modernize Moldova and, especially, the clear recognition of our European perspective will allow us to move forward during the mandate of the new European Commission.”
Starting with November 1, 2014, the European Commission will be headed by Jean-Claude Juncker. The new team includes seven vice presidents and, for the first time, a first vice president. Nine of the 28 members of the European Commission are women and three of them are vice presidents.
