Fewer technological losses of water were reported in the municipality of Chisinau last year, but the number of leakages increased. The rehabilitation of the about 200 km of water pipes, which is stipulated in the Key Investments Program financed by the EBRD and EIB, will help halve the number of water leakages, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” has said, quoted by IPN.

According to the public utility, the number of leakages last year rose by about 900 compared with 2014. An average of 36 leakages happened daily in 2015, as opposed to 34 in 2014. The managed water pipeline is over 1,900 km long and over 24 years old.

Planned works are annually carried out to repair water and sewer pipes and to maintain the water supply and sewerage system, with over 60 million lei being allocated each year for the purpose.

In 2013, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” took out loans to the value of almost €62 million from the EBRD and EIB. The money is used to implement an investment program to rehabilitate about 200 km of water pipes and over 3,000 water mains and to renovate 15 km of sewer pipes. The Wastewater Treatment Station will be modernized and the pumping stations and treatment systems will be rehabilitated.
