If presidential elections were held next Sunday, the leader of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) Igor Dodon, leader of the political project “Action and Solidarity Party” (PAS) Maia Sandu and chairman of the Political Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” (PPPDA) Andrei Nastase would win most of the votes in these. According to a poll commissioned by the newspaper “Timpul” to the Public Opinion Fund, the people would vote for these politicians because of their work experience, personal characteristics and political affiliation, IPN reports.
Ion Dabija, of the Economic Department of “Timpul”, in a news conference at IPN said the goal of the poll was to find out how the people’s opinion changed compared with last year. “We could see uncertainty about the political arena and the situation in the country and about the intention to vote. Most of the people are undecided. The poll also represented an occasion for socializing with our readers,” he stated.
The poll shows that Igor Dodon would gain 30.6% of the vote, Maia Sandu –16.4%, while Andrei Nastase – 13.4%. Some 10.2% of those surveyed would vote for the leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin, 8.2% for the chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leanca, while 5.7% for the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu. The president of the Constitutional Court Alexandru Tanase would garner 1.1% of the poll, while ex-Premier Ion Sturza - 1%.
About 6.3% of the respondents are undecided. 3.5% said they would not cast their ballots, while 2.5% said they would vote against all the candidates. 1.1% of those polled, who were offered a list of names, said they would vote for another candidate.
“On the left, things are clearer as to the candidate, while on the right there are two favorites. The chances of Maia Sandu and Andrei Nastase are practically equal. Mister Nastase would enjoy the support of his party more given that this is formalized,” said the chairman of the sociological company Public Opinion Fund Andrei Luchian.
According to the survey, if parliamentary elections were held next Sunday, seven parties would enter Parliament. 21.5% of those questioned would vote for the PSRM, 16% for the Political Party “Our Party” (PPPN), 13.1% for the PPPDA, 12.7% for the PAS, while 8.9% for the PCRM. The European People’s Party of Moldova and the Democratic Party would gain by 6.1%.
Among politicians, Igor Dodon enjoys the biggest support. He is trusted by 14.3% of the respondents. The leader of the PPPN Renato Usatyi is trusted by 13.2% of those polled, Maia Sandu – by 11.5%, Andrei Nastase – by 8.1%. Vladimir Voronin, Iurie Leanca and Marian Lupu were also indicated as trusted personalities.
The poll was carried out on a sample of 1,792 people from 107 villages and towns of Moldova between March 11 and 20. The margin of sampling error is 2.3%.
