The three leaders of the political parties that formed the Pro-European Coalition will go to the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius to take part in the initialing of the Association Agreement between the European Union and Moldova.
To an inquiry by IPN, the head of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat answered that they have normal expectations for which enormous work has been done during the years of democratic governance. “The Vilnius Summit will mean the end of an important stage in Moldova’s road to the EU. It will mean a victory for our country and a victory for every citizen apart,” he stated.
The leader of the Liberal-Democrats underlined that the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU envisions the creation of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area. “We must understand that a more important stage follows after the initialing of the agreement. We will have to work more responsibly, more insistently and more energetically so as to promote reforms in Moldova. We must make effort for the adopted laws to be implemented. I refer to the reform in justice, education, healthcare, etc. We must strengthen the state institutions so as to ensure their functionality,” stated Vlad Filat.
The leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu said his main expectation of the Vilnius Summit is for the Association Agreement to be initialed, while the Moldovan people should comprehend the European message.
Marian Lupu said a new door may open after the Summit, to the signing of the Association Agreement next year. Afterward, the association with the EU may lead to the establishment of a new format of dialogue between the Moldovan and EU institutions, attraction of investments, creation of workplaces and improvement of people’s living conditions.
The leader of the Liberal reformers Ion Hadarca said he has positive expectations of the coming event. “I expect that the Summit will take place in the set period and with the homework done, not exemplarily, but fully. I say not exemplarily as there is always place for the better,” he stated.
He added that the EU always supported Moldova and this support was felt during the negotiations on the Association Agreement. The EU also provided certain guarantees to the Moldovans, when the country faced different obstacles from outside.
