“The women's participation in politics is necessary in order to ensure a fair decision making process in the country and within the party,” the first deputy chairman of the Liberal-Democratic Party (PLDM) Alexandru Tanase said in a roundtable meeting centering on the importance of ensuring gender equality in the electoral process. The meeting was attended by representatives of the National NGO Council of Moldova and of parliamentary parties, Info-Prim Neo reports. Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, who heads the Liberal Party, said it is regretful that the women in Moldova stay in the kitchen more, but all those who want have the possibility of asserting themselves. Dumitru Diacov, the president of honor of the Democratic Party, said that the Democrats are the only ones who brought a woman in the ruling alliance's Government, but the presence of women in the lists of parties will be in question until the situation of the parties in Moldova remains unstable. The first vice chairman of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Victor Osipov stressed that the women cannot be involved in politics if they do not make effort to engage in decision making. The AMN's list of candidates for the November 28 early legislative elections includes 38 women, by 10 more than in 2009. The lists of the PCRM and PLDM contain by nine and, respectively, eight women more. The Democratic Party's list includes 34 women, as against 36 in 2009, while the Liberal Party did not modify the number of women (26).
