The leaders of the former Alliance for European Integration met at a round of negotiations on March 27. The information was confirmed by the Liberal Party head Mihai Ghimpu. However, the Liberal leader avoided giving details about the discussions, IPN reports.
Mihai Ghimpu told the journalists that the discussions were ‘like after a quarrel between the husband and wife’. Asked if they spoke about a candidate for premiership, he said the negotiations center on the European integration and this is the major interest.
In another development, Mihai Ghimpu said the Liberal Party will not vote for Vitalie Pirlog, who was proposed for the post of prosecutor general, because he is the ‘man of the Communists’. He also said that this post should be held by a person who knows the area well and is responsible for what he does.
Jurist Vitalie Pirlog was minister of justice under the Communist rule. The candidate was selected at a contest by a commission set up at the suggestion of Speaker Marian Lupu. The commission included representatives of civil society and prosecution experts.
