The chairpersons of the groups that formed a parliamentary majority were mandated by the party presidents to meet with the leaders of the Communist parliamentary groups in the near future to discuss aspects of the presidential elections. The decision was announced on January 26, after the first meeting of the Council of the Alliance for European Integration (AEI), Info-Prim Neo reports. PDM president Marian Lupu said the Council also discussed proposals concerning the agenda of the parliamentary session that will open on February 10. “I believe the most important thing is that we decided to delegate the chairpersons of the parliamentary groups of the AEI to start discussions with the Communists Party so as to reach a compromise as regards the election of the President of Moldova,” the president of the PLDM Vlad Filat said after the meeting. Ion Hadarca, first vice president of the PL, said the president of honor of the PDM Dumitru Diacov was empowered to open the talks with the PCRM. If the negotiations are accepted, they will involve the chairman of the Liberal-Democratic parliamentary group Mihai Godea, Ion Hadarca and probably the leader of the Communist group Maria Postoico. Wednesday’s meeting of the AEI Council was unusual as the composition of the Council was different from that stipulated in the agreement signed by the government coalition. The meeting was attended by 10 not the 9 members of the Council, as planned initially (by three from every party). The PDM was represented by Vlad Plahotniuc, Dumitru Diacov, Valeriu Lazar and the party’s leader Marian Lupu. The PL president Mihai Ghimpu was absent as, according to Ion Hadarca, he was on vacation in Romania. He was replaced by Mihail Moldovanu. Alexandru Tanase, of the PLDM, was substituted by Iurie Leanca. According to politicians, the makeup of the AEI Council is not inflexible and the meetings can be also attended by experts in the field.
