Alexandr Lupașco, the chairperson of the regional organization of the Party of Socialists in Drochia, said that he will run independently for Drochia district Council. According to him, the list of councilors that was initially put forward by the party was subsequently modified by people from the entourage of the party leadership, which motivated him to run independently. The chairman made the statements during an IPN press conference, organized by the public association "Patria Mea e Moldova".
According to Alexandr Lupașco, the new PSRM list for the Drochia district Council included persons who did not have the necessary training, did not carry out activities in the field and even persons who previously were part of the Democratic Party. Alexandr Lupașco argued that these people "could accidentally win, based on the party star logo, then, after the election, the citizenry would realize who they have to deal with".
"The Socialist Party has a regional organization in Drochia. We organized a conference where I was elected chairman of the regional branch of the party. The prerogative to manage regional operations lies with the Council, which is headed by me. Who is this Dolință? He came here and altered half of our lists, out of the 28 candidates. Most of the newly added persons are Democrats, that will run using the star logo. They have never been party members", said Alexandr Lupașco. He added that he would be ashamed to be on the same council team with the current representatives of the PSRM list.
Asked about his PSRM regional chairman seat, Alexandr Lupașco answered that the district congress has not yet convened in order to remove or re-elect him. "From a legal point of view, I am the chairman, however, after what these guys did, I don't want to be chairman anymore. The statute is violated, everything is violated”, said Alexandr Lupașco. He claimed that he still is a party member, however, he heard rumours that he was excluded from the party.
The candidate added that in his entire party career, he has never seen such an attitude from PSRM leadership in relation to their regional colleagues. Over the course of the last four years, relations were mutually beneficial and members helped each other out. Many things have been accomplished in the district, while the party managed to score good results in both the parliamentary and presidential elections.
Alexandr Lupașco also said that he ran in the uninominal constituency for the parliamentary elections held in February 2019, however, he lost by around 500 votes. He claimed that he felt, along with others, that cheating had occurred, which allowed the Democratic candidate to come up on top. "Over the course of the last few years, both our and their teams employed trickery", claimed Alexandr Lupașco.
