“This is an unwise action that reduces the partners’ confidence in the Republic of Moldova,” said the leader of the Democratic Party Pavel Filip, commenting on the vote to abrogate the law that authorized the sale of the site of the Republican Stadium to the United States, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the PDM.

“Besides violating everything it could violate in Parliament, the new monstrous coalition does not stop taking foolish steps and destroys the good relations that we have with a strategic partner, the United States. It is a regrettable step, a shame at international level, a blow against the country as the country must be consistent in its foreign policy and international relations,” said Pavel Filip.

Parliament in July 2018 passed a law that authorized the sale of the site of the former Republican Stadium to the United States for construction of a New Embassy Compound. The vote was held in the absence of the Socialist MPs, who left the hall being dissatisfied with the bill. Later, President Igor Dodon refused to promulgate the law. In October 2018, Parliament voted again to uphold the decision and the President had to promulgate the document (in accordance with Article 93 of the Constitution).

The abrogation of the law was adopted by the votes of the Socialist MPs, who drafted the revocation bill, and of the MPs of the Shor Party and For Moldova Platform on December 3. The opposition MPs blocked the central rostrum. The situation degenerated into verbal altercations and shoving.
