Leader of opposition party was arrested

The Court of Buiucani district from Chisinau decided on Thursday, September 28, to arrest the chairman of the Social Democrat Party of Moldova (PSDM), Eduard Musuc for a period of 10 days.
According to a press release of the Center for Combating Economic Crime and Corruption (CCECC), Eduard Musuc and his father, Ion Musuc is accused of illegally taking into property a building on Alba Iulia Street, 77, which belongs to JSC “Moldo Itel”.
According to the cited source “the suspects, who took advantage of their positions, premeditatedly took into property the building diminishing its price”.
On September 27, the ordinance on recognizing as suspect for the offence included in the Penal Code, article 195 (2) – appropriation from JSC “Mold-Itel” of MDL 1.988 mln was presented to Eduard Musuc.
CCECC invokes the existence of a witness who declared that he was threatened by Ion and Eduard Musuc, and on the base of this circumstance the penal investigation body solicited to arrest Musuc. The prosecutor has also presented other reason for his arrest, among which, the danger of falsifying by the suspect of some exoneration documents, the risks of evading from penal proceedings.
The lawyer of Musuc, Ghenadi Tatarov told Info-Prim Neo that the decision of the court is a judicial profaning, and the accusations are unjustified. “The decision to arrest Musuc is a political repression. Communists already prepare for local elections”, the lawyer mentioned. Tatarov said that PSDM informed the Socialist Internationale, the socialists from the General Assembly of the Council of Europe, UN, OSCE and diplomatic missions accredited in Chisinau about this case.
At a press conference organized on September 27, Eduard Musuc declared that his possible arrest is one of the actions of the scenario elaborated by the communist government, which aims at decapitating opposition. These actions are planned to be carried out, because of the close Congress of PSDM and local elections, and during the period when the Megadat case is examined at the European Court for Human Rights. The cited source said that searches at the headquarters of the party, homes of the leadership of PSDM and even the arrest of the family members is planned.
The leaders of the party made this declaration at a press conference organized at the hour when they were waited at CCECC.
