The lawyers of the persecuted persons can take part in the assessment of the 38 cases that were purportedly started for political reasons. A decision to this effect was taken by Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo, IPN reports, with reference to the PGO.

The lawyers are asked to present synthetized information by specifying the arguments and evidence that can confirm the political persecution and the alleged violations of the legislation committed by the investigation body, prosecutors and judges to the prosecutor general.

The information furnished by the defense will be examined by the inspection group, prosecutor in charge of the case or the prosecutors of the state prosecution. Such inspection groups are not regulated by the Penal Procedure Code and are constituted as a constructive reaction, as an exceptional administrative measure of the prosecution system, to the Parliament’ statement on state capture and to PSCE’s Report about cases that were presumably started for political reasons against persons from Moldova.

An inspection group will assess 38 criminal cases that were allegedly started based on political motives. An order to this effect was made by Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo after he familiarized himself with the statements of NGOs, civil activists and representtaives of politcila parties and with the PACE Report showing that a series of cases are suspected of being started against persons from Moldova illegally, abusively, selectively and for political reasons.
