Lawyers for ex-MP of the Democratic Party Vladimir Andronachi, who is accused of money laundering, formulated a complaint addressed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in which they present their disagreement with the solutions adopted at national level concerning the arrest and extension of the preventive detention for their client. In a news conference hosted by IPN, lawyer Oleg Mîța said that during six months Vladimir Andronachi had been in state custody absolutely illegally, being held in penitentiary No. 13.

The lawyer explained that when the first information about the detention and arrest of Vladimir Andronachi was made public, he informed public opinion that Andronachi was kidnapped on the territory of Ukraine. On November 1, Andronachi intended to go to Odessa to discuss with the lawyers the way in which he was to present himself on Moldova’s border, the steps of the defense and other technical details as other persons with arrest warrants who wanted to cross the border were also taken over by the authorities, were questioned and had the preventive detention modified and weren’t remanded in custody. Vladimir Andronachi also pursued such a goal. But he was held for about nine hours at the border crossing point between Ukraine and Hungary and was then taken over by the security service of Ukraine and taken by force to the Mămăliga border crossing point, where he was handed over to the Moldovan authorities. Later, he was placed under arrest for several times or in remand detention absolutely unjustifiably.

Oleg Mîța noted that after their client was remanded in custody, no procedural actions were taken during six months. It was every time invoked the necessity of keeping him under arrest given the ‘investigation measures’ that were to be taken. The defense presented documents showing that the state of health of Vladimir Andronachi worsened while in detention and that there were no risks and no reasons for keeping him under arrest, but these were ignored.

The lawyer said the proofs and material about detention in inhuman and degrading conditions during six months will become the subject of complaint at the ECHR.
