Lawyer Vitalie Taulean, who was tried for hooliganism, was acquitted by the court of law. In a news conference at IPN, the lawyer said the decision was passed two years after the criminal proceedings were instituted against him in the absence of evidence and by order of the ex-prosecutor general.
Vitalie Taulean said the case was started after he went to the Prosecutor’s Office together with two clients as a lawyer in the autumn of 2014. There, he was pushed out of the office by the prosecutor dealing with that case. Two years ago, he presented video sequences showing he went to the office with the permission of the police officer who was on guard at the entrance. Later, this police officer made false statements, saying the lawyer entered without being allowed to.
The lawyer noted that instead of holding the prosecutors accountable for violating the law, a criminal case was started against him. If the legal system in Moldova had been honest, he wouldn’t have been tried. He said he will continue to make effort for the persons who take legal action in the absence of proofs to be held accountable.
Vitalie Taulean also said that the case against him was started by order of the former prospector general and he was persecuted because he made public a number of cases of abuse committed by prosecutors, becoming thus an inconvenient person. In the period, he had to go to hearings and lost clients. He was treated with disrespect by prosecutors who posed as victims in this trial.
The lawyer stated that he was lucky because the case was examined by a judge with common sense. Despite the pressure exerted on the judge, this passed an acquittal sentence. Vitalie Taulean underlined he will continue to fight the inequitable justice.
