Lawyer Vitalie Taulean said that four clients of his risk unjustly serving 13 years in jail after the law enforcement bodies fabricated evidence against them. In a news conference at IPN, the jurist said that two police officers, being under the influence of alcohol, attacked one of the four men. Afterward, criminal cases were started against this man as well as against the three men who where in his house when the incident happened.

Vitalie Taulean said the four men have been persecuted by the law enforcement bodies for a year. They are investigated outside prison, but were banned from leaving the country. The two policemen illegally came to Ion Miroslavschi’s house situated in Pepeni village of Sangerei district, after drinking alcohol on the Police Day. “That day, Ion Miroslavschi and another three clients of mine had a small conflict with several persons. I think that one of those persons later called the two police officers, saying that my clients had something in their cart and should be examined,” stated the lawyer.

In the same news conference, Ion Miroslavschi related that one night a year ago, he was called out by two men who didn’t present themselves and who were under the influence of alcohol. One of them attacked him and tried to hit him in the head with a sled located not far, but was stopped by a friend of his, Ion Cereseu, who was at his place on a visit. Ion Cereseu said the attacker, being inebriated, stumbled and fell, hitting his face against the threshold. Hearing noise outside, Grigore Miroslavschi also came out, saying he will call the police. Then the two men who came to Ion Miroslavschi’s place said they were police officers and the one who hit his face presented his permit. There was one more man in the house. Pavel Gutu went out when the ambulance and the police arrived. Pavel Gutu said a policeman approached him and told him to prepare money because he will need it.

Now the four men are accused of ill-treatment of police officers, hooliganism and theft of scrap iron. According to the men, the investigation bodies fabricate evidence against them, writing reports to describe them that should be normally written by officials of the Pepeni mayor’s office. Ion Miroslavschi’s wife was made to sign a document, being told that her husband will get rid of problems if she signed it.

The men’s lawyer Vitalie Taulean filed a complaint to the Prosecutor General’s Office, demanding that the police officers and the prosecutor who ordered investigating his clients should be also investigated. The jurist said that by fabricating criminal cases against the four, they want to hush up the offenses committed by the two police officers.
