Ion Crețu, one of the lawyers for businessman Veaceaslav Platon, said the case started against his client, who was sentenced to 18 years in jail, will be reviewed. This means he is to be investigated outside custody. Veaceaslva Platon cannot remain in Penitentiary No. 13 as all the sentences given to him will be overturned, IPN reports.

The lawyer could not say when Veaceaslav Platon could be set free, but voiced hope that this will happen in the nearest future.

“I cannot say, but I believe there will be many obstacles on the part of persons who are not interested in reopening the case,” Ion Crețu stated in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.

The lawyer noted they have spoken about the fabrication of evidence against his client since 2016, but the real evidence was stolen by persons close to Vladimir Plahotniuc and Ilan Shor. The retrying of the case does not suit the two.

According to Ion Crețu, if Veaceaslav Platon is released from custody, he will remain in the country in order to prove his innocence.

“Platon does not intend to run as, if he flees, his case remains and he will be unable to prove his innocence. Evidence has been fabricated during all these years and they ultimately determined what we have maintained for years,” stated the lawyer.

On May 18, Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo announced that the case against Veaceslav Platon was fully fabricated and a procedure for reviewing his sentences will be initiated. He also said that Vladimir Plahotniuc was one of the main beneficiaries of the bank fraud.
