Ion Mazur, the lawyer for Olga Stoica - the widow of the man who was killed in Vulcănești village of Nisporeni district in 2019 - said that he and his client will make an approach to the MPs to take this case under control. He noted there is a system problem and they cannot endlessly go from court to court and be told that the prosecutor is not right, but the prosecutor continuously orders what he has in his mind.
In a news conference at IPN, Ion Mazur said that appropriate measures haven’t been taken in this case for a long period of time and attempts are also made to hide the traces of the offense. The key witnesses are persecuted, illegally arrested and criminal proceedings are brought against them by the Prosecutor’s Office. “We are facing a difficult system situation, based on the example of this case,” said the lawyer. According to him, in a country with authentic democracy, the key witnesses in such a difficult case are protected by the state, while in Moldova something else happens. These witnesses are not protected, but are even persecuted, as their families are.
“Five persons, by prior agreement, can come to a person’s gate at night with guns and with a prepared car and commit a murder. Ultimately, four persons of the five got two years in jail by the Appeals Court’s decision for hooliganism, nine months of which they stayed under house arrest. This is the punishment for complicity in murder and murder attempt on Stoica Olga and the minor child,” added the lawyer.
He considers the Prosecutor’s Office doesn’t do its job and some of its superiors abuse their authority. The MPs should form a commission of inquiry for determining all the circumstances and taking appropriate measures.
Widow Olga Stoica has four children to grow. She voiced hope that justice will be done in this case.
The crime was committed in May 2019 following a conflict between the victim and two of the culprits, who insulted him near a local shop. An older conflict existed between those families. Later, five men went by a car to the man’s home and fired at him in the presence of his wife and his 12-year-old daughter. The man who got 12 years fired five shots at the victim from a legally held gun. The victim died on the way to the hospital. He was 37 and had four children, the youngest one being one year and a half.
This March, the Ungheni Town Court has convicted five culprits tried in the case of the murder committed in Vulcănești. Four of them got by two years, while the one who fired at the victim was sentenced to 12 years in jail. According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the convicted are aged between 21 and 38 and are from the same villages as the murdered man.
