Ion Crețu, the lawyer of the businessman Veaceslav Platon, claims that the billion dollars was stolen from the banking system by the former leader of the Democratic Party, Vladimir Plahotniuc, through the former mayor of Orhei, Ilan Șor. The lawyer claims that he came to this conclusion after studying 50% of the bank turnover. According to him, " Platon was incriminated with what Plahotniuc stole." The statements were made on "Politica Nataliei Morari " show, TV8, IPN reports.

"It's the biggest test - the turnover. If you blame Platon, be kind and add the turnover evidence to the file. But the turnover is not in the file. We indicate the turnover and show that the money does not go to Platon, it goes elsewhere. You can investigate, look where the money goes further - to Sor's companies”, stated Ion Crețu.

According to him, the prosecutors in the court only referred to Ilan Șor's statements, but they did not rely, as evidence, on the bank turnover. "Based on the turnover figures known to me, $ 40 million in cash were withdrawn from Unibank. It is claimed that they were drawn by a person from the Russian Federation who has never been to Moldova. He was first accused in Filat's case, then they dropped the charges, now they are accusing him in Platon's case," the lawyer said.

Ion Crețu says that the case file expressly indicates that the money had been withdrawn in person even if it was proven that the man had never been in the Republic of Moldova. The lawyer claims that the National Anticorruption Centre was aware of all the transactions carried out at the banking institutions, but did not act. "It is elementary; they did not even examine the person in charge at the bank who released such an amount of money. They wanted, by different methods, to put this money on the back of someone else - first Filat, then Platon," the defense lawyer explained.

The lawyer says that from the transactions he studied it is clear that about 10 companies which were transferring money were managed by one of Ilan Sor’s drivers.

Ion Crețu says that since he became the lawyer of the businessman and the former MP Veaceslav Platon his life turned into a nightmare. According to him, he was watched day and night, at the office, at home, on the road by cars subordinated to the Ministry of the Interior. He fled the country because he found out that he was supposed to be arrested. A few days ago he returned to the country.

The businessman and former MP Veaceslav Platon was detained in July 2016, for large-scale fraud and money laundering, which led to a damage of over 800 million lei to Banca de Economii. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison in two criminal cases and serves his sentence in the penitentiary.
