Officers of the anti-corruption center detained a lawyer going through his probation, who asked 17,000 euros from a person for helping release a detainee before serving his sentence. The suspect was caught in the act of taking an advance of 8,000 euros, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime (CCCEC). According to the police, 2,000 euros constituted the recompense for the services provided by the lawyer, while the rest of the sum was to be given to employees of the Department of Penitentiary Institution who were to prepare the documents needed to release the detainee. The lawyer is now in the remand unit of the CCCEC. He is liable to 3 to 7 years in jail and fine of 10,000 or 30,000 lei. The CCCEC this year has started 13 legal cases against lawyers, ten of which over corruption charges.
