Lawyer Ilie Rotaru said the current government mimics the reforms in the justice sector and this happens for a number of reasons. “I present three of my suppositions and everyone can draw the own conclusions. The first supposition is that the current government does no want reforms as it gave up them due to particular interests, primarily non-pecuniary ones. The second supposition is that they are not allowed to do real reforms by the county’s foreign strategic partners. The third supposition is that they are not competent,” Ilie Rotaru stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

Ilie Rotaru said that after the Party of Action and Solidarity gained a parliamentary majority, he sent a memorandum to this by which he offered his assistance given that he has rich experience but he hasn’t yet received any response. He then made approaches to the President, asking to dismiss prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo, who is now suspended. He submitted a denouncing statement against Alexandr Stoianoglo to the Superior Council of Prosecutors but didn’t obtain any reaction. Therefore, he filed a lawsuit to court, asking that the Council should be obliged to examine his denouncement. The lawsuit was rejected as inadmissible.

As to the contests to fill posts, Ilie Rotaru said the fate of all the candidates is decided by Olesea Stamate, the head of the Parliament’s legal commission on appointments and immunities. He took part in several competitions, including the contest to fill the vacancy of ombudsperson. According to him, this contest was mimicked and the winner was known from the start.

The lawyer noted that he made approaches to the President, Parliament Speaker and the Prime Minister and informed them that the justice sector reform has been mimicked. It is hard to prove the mimicking as functionaries who support each other are involved. He made multiple requests to have an audience with the President but representatives of the President’s Office didn’t grant these. Therefore, he decided to go to the Presidential Palace to ask for an audience.
