A lawyer from Chisinau was arrested on suspicion of traffic of influence. He asked for €4,500 from a woman detainee for influencing judges of the Centru Court and the Appeals Court to pass a judgment in her favor. The woman was convicted of trafficking in human beings and is investigated for procuring, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, the lawyer was arrested for 72 hours. He faces two to six years in jail or a fine of 60,000 to 80,000 lei.
Eight lawyers have been investigated for acts of corruption so far this year.
